Following the Borough Council’s approval of the recent Permission in Principle (PiP) application for 5 Affordable houses off A134 Stoke Road, Wereham Parish Council wishes to update parishioners on the situation and next steps.
A Permission in Principle application does not grant full planning permission. It establishes only that the site is considered suitable in principle, and the developer must now submit a full planning application before any development can proceed. If indeed they are in ownership of the land at this time, which we are not aware of either way. As part of the PiP process, parishioners were encouraged to submit their views, and a total of 68 objections were lodged. The Council is grateful to everyone who took the time to respond.
Last week, I spoke with our local MP, Terry Jermy, and raised concerns the village had. Cllr Sue Lintern also clarified that PiP applications cannot be “called in” by Borough Councillors, and that future changes to planning legislation may further limit the ability to call in applications of this type.
We can now confirm that the developer will be required to submit a full planning application. When that application is published, parishioners will again have the opportunity to comment, and it will be important for residents to make their views known just as they did during the PiP stage.
When and if the developers submit a full application all technical aspects of the application such as Highways will come into effect. It is paramount that everyone who has objections to this application resubmits again, and to assure you please do not feel that you are not being heard.
Wereham Parish Council will continue to keep parishioners informed as further information becomes available, this might not be any time soon.
